Treatments are often performed after a well is drilled to restore or enhance productivity. They range from small scale cleanup of existing permeability in vertical wells (mini frac) to large scale shale fracturing in horizontal wells to create permeability. A fluid (water) + proppant (sand) is injected into the formation under pressure. While the physical principles are similar, the operations, scope , and materials vary greatly.
